Please help - re-registration problems
« on: January 26, 2005, 11:04:16 PM »
Can anyone help me please?
I have been scanning the forum for a while and I couldn't see the answer to this particular prob, but if this has been posted before please forgive me. :)

I am trying to re-register my Avast home product.I have used it without probs for the last 14 months, but got no warning that my registration was about to expire, I just logged on one day and it would no longer work. I got a red message box
instead of the normal blue update.

When I first tried to re-register I got an error message saying my date/time were wrong.
I checked and it was wrong, so I corrected it.
I tried putting in the new reg number and it still won't work.( I haven't pasted it.)
The error message I get reads:

The License key for this product is invalid or expired.
License is valid until 01/04/06.
Current date: 01/26/05.
- your updating license has expired; register again and enter the new license key
-your system time/date is not set correctly; fix it and enter the license key again.

I have checked my time date, it is set for Jan 26th 2005.
All the other dates on my avast screen are set date/month/year, but on this error message it seems to read month/date/year, could this be the problem and if so, how can I correct this?

Also to complicate things further, I right-clicked the system tray icon and on there it says my registration expires 1st March 2006.

I'm concerned as I have no anti-virus running now ( I presume ) so I would like to get it sorted asap.

Any ideas anyone?  ???

Could you try going though the registration process again please, this should fix it.

Thanks Lee,
I've tried re-entering the key loads of times.
I even re-registered on the Avast site, but the key they sent me was the same one.

If you don't register with a new email address you will get the same reg key back.

If you have in fact sorted a problem with the system date/time, have you rebooted ?

If it is still not sorted, I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

If that fails, uninstall, boot, install, boot.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

David, I was trying to avoid the uninstall/re-install scenario, but I may have to!  :-[ I will try the repair first ( I have already rebooted) and see if that works, fingers crossed.

Igor, yes I have 4.5.561

Thanks guys

It looks like I will have to uninstall/reinstall. :(

I tried the repair but it won't work.
It starts to download the files and then just kicks me back to the add/remove programmes screen.  :'(

I even tried updating the components while I was in there to see if that would work but I got the error message:
There was an error while changing the product configuration. And it threw me back out to the add/remove programmes screen again.

I don't have the energy or the inclination to start un/reinstalling now so if anyone has any more inspiration before I do that tomorrow I would be very grateful. Thanks again for all your help.

Did you manage (install) more than one avast language?
Did you register after 1st of January or the Registration process was made last year?
Were you connected to Internet when you've tried to repair the installation?

Technical,
I didn't download more than one language as far as I am aware.
I did register after Jan, and I was connected to the Internet when I tried to repair.

So, I can't find other solution than uninstall > boot > install > boot.
Oh, you can save the avast4.ini file (into the avast4\data folder) and overwrite the new one (it will save your settings)  ;)

Thanks everyone who replied, I'm all sorted. ;D
I un/reinstalled and it's fine.

I just expected probs which you usually get but it was fine. :D

Thanks for all the advice anyway, I will be calling back.
It's a great product and who knows, I might be able to help someone else one day. ;)
