Hi There,
I did "sort of" have  the same problem, my Windows Box with Avast updated automatically to 12100901.  Not on my iMac!! however~~~when I did a manual update it picked up the new virus database...but I have the problem when I open Avast it takes a while for the GUI to open up, also I am afraid to to a restart as the last Avast 37667 forced me to do a hard restart as the computer froze up on me, I am blaming 37667 Avast for that!!!  It looks like your manual update is giving you some grief, let's hope they fix this problem up...it's sad, Avast for Windows purrs like a kitten and never gives me a problem.

I had the same problem on my macbook - 10.6.8 latest avast etc....
I then tried updating via a different proxy server... bingo.
seems to be some sort of issue with the UK servers ?
I will wait to see if in the future it updates normally or if I always have to use another server....

Hallo, looks like you cannot lokup download.ff.avast.com servers for some temporary reason.
Manual update and automatic update do the very same routine (just the initiator of the mechanism is gui, not daemon itself), so I don't see any reason why the gui-initiated thing should work and the automatic one not. Does the problem still persist?

regards,
pc

Problem still persists even with the very latest version 7.0.37682
I have 2 Macbook's here, one a dual core (mine) & a single core (Dad's) ... Dad's updates without problems...
I can try manual updates all day long with the same results.... Firewall turned off etc....
