Decided to remain with Avast, please don't delete my account
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:41:09 PM »
I decided to move from Avast to AVG, because some people said me that AVG is a better antivirus that find more threats, so I want to delete my account.
I haven't an option to remove my account manually.
Can you remove my account?

Mayby you shouldn't listen to everthing you hear or at least get your advice from a more reliable source.

No need to delet your account yet, im suspecting you'll be back before you know it ;D

I would start by looking at these figures,  http://www.mrg-effitas.com/current-tests/flash-test-results/, there are others that will also give knowledgeable advice.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/detection-test
There are areas where avast is way ahead of A V G and others where it isn't so far ahead, you should also consider false positives where A V G has more FPs.

As Tech mentions, the thing which is frequently forgotten when selecting an AV is support and think that you have seen what that is like here.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

There is also a page where you could compare avast! and AVG results in independent tests:
http://www.avast.com/best-antivirus

Some avast is better, some AVG.

If you check the only test free AV box it is even more conclusive for avast free Vs A V G free on the AV Comparatives results. Unfortunately when you select free only it doesn't have the latest AV Comparatives test results.

As was stated above, you should not be in a hurry to end your Avast account as you will be back soon.

For the past 2 years, AVG has been having problems and not only with false positives (fp).

I finally decided to return to Avast (And retain my account), because your claims about AVG have been proven TRUE. :)
AVG discovered to have several disadventages including:
1. AVG can't be updated in "Safe mode with network support".
2. Opening AVG, don't opens the anti-virus interface itself in safe-mode (Like in the case of Avast), but rather a very compliacted and problematic "Commend line scanner".
3. AVG seems to consume much more memory than Avast.
4. AVG seems to consume 100% of the CPU during scanning, while Avast don't.
5. AVG considerably slows down the computer during scanning, even if the scanning priority isn't at the max (Avast slows down only at max scanning priority).
6. There are indeed have an indication to cause more false positives than Avast.
