Interesting development: Tried 4 times to install the update and every time it locked my Win 7 64-bit machine up. Just for chuckles, tried installing with the 8 gig USB thumb drive (used as Drivespace) removed. Install/upgrade went smoothly, with reboot and working fine.

Well, this only lasted about 20 minutes, until I rebooted again and it locked up the same way - without the USB drive, so guess that wasn't the cause.

Back to 1466 until a fix comes out.

Just curious.  When you say "8 gig USB thumb drive (used as Drivespace)"  do you mean the thumbdrive is configured as"ReadyBoost"?

My mistake. Yes, 8G set up as ReadyBoost, and using the balance for file backup.

avast! 7 introduce so many new features but i sorry to say avast 7 (all ver) is most buggy avast ever. :'( :'( :'( :'( :-\ :-\ :-\ :-[ :-[ :-[ >:( >:( >:( :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
They have one buggy build and you want to crucify them. They consistently produce a superior software, and they will fix this build too.
i am using avast! seen avast 4.0 (when i bought my 1st p.c). i am a big fan of avast but avast 7 (1st release to latest release ) it is continuously have many problem in stable release like beta.

As you're using XP 64bit, do a clean reinstall without behaviour shield.

I'm having problems with the firewall losing all settings, and continuously nagging for every program on my system. I tried to load the backup firewall rules and settings from the backup I created before letting it update, it didn't change. All the rules are there, in the firewall application rules, it just doesn't want to use them.

Could it be something in your setup? As you see some people are having no issues with this build while other folks are having issues with the same exact software.

Same for me. Had to go back with System Restore. Tried the update a couple of times but PC locks up during incomplete boot. I'm using Win 7 64-bit and running Malwarebytes Pro - maybe a conflict?

Also running Malwarebytes Pro here, but I have it set to ignore Avast. Still could be a conflict, I guess. Also running Win 7, Home Premium 64-bit, with an AMD Athlon II X2 processor. Maybe some of the others with this same problem will weigh in?

ok so i had the same issue with computer stopping on startup

After some trial and error including look for conflict problems, disabling superantispware, disabling functions (none of those ideas worked) i found the answer, at least for me.
ive just found out if stop malwarebytes from loading avast works fine that way too, theres a conflict  btwn avast and malwarebytes, but id rather keep malwarebytes and disable avast firewall
to do this method of losing the firewall and keepin malwarebytes
uninstall and reinstall avast dont include the firewall. When it asks u to restart, go ahead. When ur computer is reloaded again make sure firewall is turned off, if firewall is turned on then when u shutdown and then turn on comp the problem will return.

i hope i helped
