Same for me. Had to go back with System Restore. Tried the update a couple of times but PC locks up during incomplete boot. I'm using Win 7 64-bit and running Malwarebytes Pro - maybe a conflict?

UPDATE !!!

Hi, was there any special silent Avast update ?  I was running Avast 1466 yesterday but today I see updated Avast 1473 on Windows XP X64 !

I can not remember I updated Avast (program itself) and automatic program updates are turned off.

BUT more important Avast 1473 seems to work OK for now (on WinXP X64) !

This was some kind of fake Avast update !

Avast was only indicating to me it is version 1473.

Because when I tried AGAIN to update Avast (program) itself Avast ask me to reboot machine.

After reboot same issue occured (no 32-bit program could start, no reboot possible) but Avast was displaying same, now real,  version 1473.

ok so i had the same issue with computer stopping on startup

After some trial and error including look for conflict problems, disabling superantispware, disabling functions (none of those ideas worked) i found the answer, at least for me.
ive just found out if stop malwarebytes from loading avast works fine that way too, theres a conflict  btwn avast and malwarebytes, but id rather keep malwarebytes and disable avast firewall
to do this method of losing the firewall and keepin malwarebytes
uninstall and reinstall avast dont include the firewall. When it asks u to restart, go ahead. When ur computer is reloaded again make sure firewall is turned off, if firewall is turned on then when u shutdown and then turn on comp the problem will return.

i hope i helped

btw dont do system restore just uninstall avast in safe mode

Thanks for the information - I did suspect this might be the conflict - I vaguely remember an error message from Malwarebytes on trying the first installation. Unfortunately I had to do System Restore from a restoration disk because I only had one opportunity to boot into safe mode after installation and didnt take that opportunity to remove Avast. It wouldn't even boot into safe mode the next time! Incidentally is there a firewall setting on the free version of Avast? Because if there is I don't see it on version 1466 and windows tells me it is Windows Firewall which is running and I get regular updates to Defender. Maybe its the update version 1473 which messes with firewall settings and Malwarebytes. Like you, I would rather stick with Malwarebytes, who I imagine many users would. Fix needed methinks!

Interesting.  I don't recall having seen a conflict between avast!AIS and SAS Pro over the last couple of years.

No issues here on any of the 3 machines listed in my signature. The only issue I had was on the Win7 one where the updating progress was not shown and I only got the notice warning me that a reboot was needed. Everything is working perfectly though on all 3 computers.

Well putting in those settings seems to have worked for me. I have now updated successfully and rebooted a few times. So it does appear the update creates a conflict with Malwarebytes Pro which didn't exist before as I never previously needed those exclusion settings. Strongly recommend anyone running Malwarebytes Pro uses these settings before updating. Thanks to Asyn for pointing me in the right direction.

My XP64 disk started failing, so I replaced it and re-installed the OS (and avast .1466). I can say that the problems undating my NIC drivers and installing virtualbox were gone, but SUMo still won't work correctly unless I disable avast. I didn't try 1473, bacause it will render the PC unusable. Just waiting for a fix to be released.
just my $2.

Updated one Windows 7 machine - no problem.  Updated a second machine, Avast blocked web access from IE and intermittently caused black screen after logging onto the user account, forcing a power off restart.  Had to remove in safe mode and reinstall back to 1466, no problem now.

Between the buggy update earlier this year (1453?) and 1473, I've spent more hours this year uninstalling and reinstalling Avast than in all the many years I've been using the product.  All three of my Windows 7 machines have been disabled by one or the other of these two releases, and one machine has been disabled by both.  This product is like a high-maintenance girlfriend, about to get dumped.

Oi, why did MS release a major platform on a Friday... at best, they're forcing companies to work through the weekend, at best they leave all of their customers hanging on issues like this.

I tried to upgrade from 7.0.1466 to 7.0.1473 and after updating the program on my Windows 7 SP-1 64-bit my computer would boot to windows, but I could not do anything. I had to do a hard shutdown by pressing the power button, and then restart in Safe Mode and Restore to the pre-installation of Avast. Then everything was fine. Anyone know why I might be having this problem after installing 7.0.1473?
