Network shield prevents access to router web setup - Avast 1474
« on: October 27, 2012, 01:24:46 PM »
Since upgrading to Windows 8 and the latest version of Avast I have to disable the Network shield otherwise my routers web setup page is extremely slow to load, or elements are missing, same thing happens when connecting to my cable modems web setup, both issues are fixed If I disable the Network shield.

I thought you guys spent extra time on the Network Shield to make it Windows 8 compatible?

Same issue here. Build 1473 is very buggy. It causes network issues and bsods. I swithced back to 1466 and the problem is gone.

This is still occurring as of the latest build, still no post from anyone on the dev/support team either.

It's Avast 7 Pro, doesn't appear to matter then brand of router since I have the same issue with my cable modem too, with Network Shield enabled accessing the web setup on either device is very slow, with Network Shield disabled it functions properly.

We have seen these problems in the past with WebShield. HW appliances such as routers sometimes have rather limited Web Servers and/or send the data is some specific somewhat non-standard way and this might confuse the HTTP parser (inside WebShield or Netshield). Would you be able to create a packet dump from the communication (e.g. in Wireshark) ?

Thanks. L.

Not even sure how to do that, The problem didn't occur in Windows 7, only in Windows 8 with Network Shield enabled.

Have you tried clicking around and accessing the various options? The first screen shows fine, but trying to access the various options takes a long time, the status bar of my browser gets stuck at transferring from 192.x.x.x

Here is a portion of the log:  http://pastebin.com/9NwKQTra

My nshield.log file is full of entries also.

I just did a test, I enabled the Network Shield then attempted to access my cable modem, then I stopped the shield and here's the entries between starting and stopping the shield.

Hallo..

I'm not able to reproduce the bug here in Avast!, then I can ask you if you can specify the router/modem types where the problem occurs and firmware versions (for example if you are using openwrt etc..)

The slow-down problem occurs only with router pages (all or any specific pages), or on classic web pages too?

Does help if you restart the Avast Service by Service Manager?

Additionally, do you use another third party security software for traffic inspection? Firewall, parental control, etc?

!!! PLEASE, TRY TO REPLY ALL QUESTRIONS !!!

Thank you.

No problems here accessing my DLINK router or Motorola Cable Modem.

Well I have ADSL router D-Link DSL-2641B and I do have those issues. Windows 8 Pro x64 and Avast Free.
