I'm not having the BSOD on Win8, but the netowrk shield goes crazy and it keeps using 25-30% cpu, maybe it is related...
It could be. I haven't checked the usage of it on my Windows 8 system that isn't getting the BSOD, but I wouldn't be surprised if I found the same result. Often times coding conflicts or errors will cause higher CPU usage, so even if our systems aren't crashing, we're likely being affected by the same bug, just in a different way.

I'm running 8 x64 Release Preview. I just reinstalled 8RP about 2 hours ago and downloaded Avast fresh this evening. It is 7.0.1474. My system crashed with the same BSOD relating to aswnet.sys three times in about 30 minutes. I disabled all shields about 45 minutes ago and experienced no more crashes. About 15 minutes ago I enabled all shields except for the web and network shields, since I've read it could be either, and so far it hasn't crashed again. I'll look for the dump file to upload. The only apps I have installed are Keepass and Firefox. I crashed twice before installing Firefox. One crash just moving around in Windows, one crash was when I tried to start the installer for Fx, and once after installing it when I tried to start it. Keepass was installed after the crashes.

EDIT: I uploaded "Ignotus mem dmp.zip". This is a dump before I changed Windows to do a complete dump. I had a crash after changing to complete, but there wasn't a dmp file to upload.

I have got four BSOD during 1474 version and everytime just after waking from sleep state. I have had also many succesful wake-ups. 1474 is much stable than 1473.

Hi guys,

we are still trying to come up with some fix for the frequent Win8 crash inside aswnet.sys.

Could you please try the following updated driver and post here if it performs any better?
The link and instructions are here:
http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/patches/

It is still possible we didn't hit the right bug, so if you can, please follow the instruction on the page above and enable extra logging. Any possible dump files will be more usable for us! Thanks a lot.
Lukas

PS: please enable Network Shield, if you have previously disabled it as a workaround. Thanks.

Edit: formating.

It appears to be working fine for me. No crashes at all yet on my Windows 8 Pro x86 with Media Center Pack.

@clickman: Are you using this patch on top of the latest version of Avast!'s program?

Lukas Rypacek sent me a solution for [aswnet patch: Patch for aswNet.sys, BlueScreen in NETIO.SYS on Windows8].
It was when I am still using 7.0.1473.

At that time, one of my system BSOD, one is not.

After applied the solution, both systems are working well.

Then I upgraded to 7.0.1474 and still no BSOD on both systems.

My system is Windows 8 x64 CHS on both laptops.
My Avast is PRO version.

Hi clickman, from the dump it seems you haven't updated to the patched driver correctly. It still shows the old one, build 29 Oct.
