Hi, I've just checked all the uploaded dumps at our servers. All aswnet.sys crashes were inside the old version from 29th Oct. Seems like the fix somewhat helped.

even applying the correction and downloading the latest version of avast, I'm still having problems with windows 8 Pro .. every time I turn off all modules Protective avast or lock the computer BSOD and accuses him of the file "aswnet.sys" as error ...

I noticed this first when trying to install any applications...uninstalled avast and the apps would install fine without the BSOD. Also noticed it sometimes when unlocking the computer but that was always random, apps happened every time. With Autosandbox disabled I can install and run apps just fine but still get the occasional crash when unlocking the computer.

Just like to say that I don't remember having these problems with the Win 8 preview.

You need to apply the patch after updating to the latest version. :)

Did a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 64bit and upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64bit last night.

Installed Avast FREE 7.0.1474 and am receiving the crashes.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (aswnet.sys).

This is especially evident when manually locking Windows 8 (with the windows key + L) then unlocking and locking again a couple of times in a row.

At first I was cursing Windows 8, but googling this error brought up many complaints with Avast.

I did have Avast 7 Internet Security but it expires in 28 days, so I thought I would switch to the freebie when I reloaded everything.

Thanks for the response Sugar.

I just came back to respond that I did some more searching and ended up here:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108441.0

I also followed the instructions here:
http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/patches/

We'll see what happens.

Hi Chris, could you please post the file date of your system32\drivers\aswnet.sys file? What app did you use during unpacking? Haven't the patched file ended in the \Windows\SysWow64\drivers folder instead?

From Memory.7z:

4: kd> !lmi aswnet.sys
Loaded Module Info: [aswnet.sys]
         Module: aswnet
   Base Address: fffff880036ea000
     Image Name: aswnet.sys
   Machine Type: 34404 (X64)
     Time Stamp: 508e9a7f Mon Oct 29 16:02:23 2012

From Crash.7z - i both minidumps:

4: kd> !lmi aswnet.sys
Loaded Module Info: [aswnet.sys]
         Module: aswnet
   Base Address: fffff880036ea000
     Image Name: aswnet.sys
   Machine Type: 34404 (X64)
     Time Stamp: 508e9a7f Mon Oct 29 16:02:23 2012

Mon Oct 29 is the date of the original unpatched version from 7.0.1474.  :(

In crash.7z, one of the dumps seems to be completely unrelated. Inside svchost.exe, some memory management error - don't know any details just from a quick look.
