Changing things without knowing their effects is like
pulling the trigger on a loaded gun while pointing the barrel of the gun to your face
so you can watch what happens.
Both can have very unpleasant effects.
When in doubt, leave the default settings alone. They are, in most instances, the best choice.
I know, but I also enjoy mucking around with the settings. It is kind of fun!
Since the comment wasn't really directed at you (but the user 2 above Bob's post and directly responding below it), but someone who was having issues having changed the settings.
