Unless you need VPN service, why would you even consider such a program ???

I guess I don't really need it but I starting installing it and Avast popped up saying their was some kind of a threat.  I continued to install it anyway but it asked to change my network adapter and since I didn't understand what that meant I checked no and that's as far as I got.  It had it's own uninstaller so it's no longer on my computer.  I'm going to have to stop downloading and installing software that I know nothing about.

No.  :)

Good now you're thinking straight and learning a bit better, is never download and install any software that you're not 100% sure never be afraid to ask or look it up through Google search for more information as possible try and keep all your problems in the one subject post as possible it doesn't matter if you have more than one problem or software problem just keep it all in the one subject post so it doesn't get lost.

Try not to post every subject for each problem or software that you're not 100% sure just keep it all in the one subject post as much as you can, otherwise if you keep on doing you're bad habit is gunna drive us nuts up to a brick wall I'm sure you've been told many times over ;).

Dear -midnight,
There's really no reason to be afraid using CyberGhost VPN, for we are one of the most well-knowed VPN provider from the whole world. And I'm not just saying that as a CyberGhost representative  ;), there are more than 1.6 million users who have installed and are currently using CyberGhost since 2007. The Network adapter that requires to be changed is the official Network Adapter (TAP-Win32) from OpenVPN and it's super-safe. You may want to give it another shot and check out the features we provide you with.  :)

As for considering that you don't need a VPN since you've got nothing to hide (@bob3160), well that's not the only thing a VPN-service does. Actually, one of the most important features is that with CyberGhost you can unlock geo-restricted websites so that information can be seen and exchanged between people from all around the globe. If you're an american, that's not very important, perhaps, because you don't have restricted websites. But what if you're an american travelling in China or UAE? Have you ever thought that journalists or activists there cannot access vital informations, just because they are banned by the state's censorship?

Welcome to the forum. :)
As the person with "nothing to hide", I also am the person who lives in a country where we don't have the type of cyber censorship you claim
that CyberGhost is able to bypass.
If I wanted to remain anonymous, I wouldn't be on the internet in the first place.  ;D  For me a VPN only slows down my ability to access and utilize the internet.
There may be places where your product is greatly appreciated. I personally have no need for it.
Thanks for joining the forum.  :)

Hey! Thanks for the warm welcome, bob3160!

Well, that was my point exactly, that you may not need it now (if you're in a country that does not censor websites), but while travelling, it may come in handy  ;)   (by the way, if for example you want to download torrents while using CyberGhost VPN, your speed will be as high as it would be if you were not connected through a VPN. So decreased speed isn't always an argument. As for the ability to access and utilize internet...I don't know what exactly do you mean?)
Anyway, you must agree that most of the people have no idea that their personal infos can be manipulated by whoever wants to (personalized google search results or offers received by e-mail...and these are the less harmfull examples I can think about). So that's why we think it's better to stay undercover. But I trully respect the fact that you're consciously aware of the fact that you are not at all protected and anonymous, while surfing the internet.

Well, I did beta-test it and it worked quite well back then.
But there were still some bugs and I didn't test the release version, so I can't give a final verdict. Sorry.

No worries Asyn, hopefully someone who has/is actually using the service can give a bit of critique on the service.

VPN's are also used protect Wifi especially if you use a laptop not just access censored websites in countries where there is internet censorship.

This is a small video describing it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq85wY9fZxQ

Or

Quote :

"A VPN creates a “tunnel” between you and the VPN server. Anything passing through the “tunnel” is being encrypted and is invisible from the outside. This prevents hackers from stealing your personal information such as: Bank accounts and passwords.

More and more people these days use VPN services to protect themselves from preying eyes, especially in Wi-Fi spots like Starbucks,  universities, airports, and hotels. Though these open WI-FI(s) are very convenient for people on the go, however, they are also where Internet hackers are lurking.

People on the go often need to check their emails, hotel reservation, flights status etc frequently. If not being careful, you could get spied on and have your sensitive information stolen by malicious software such as Firesheep which was used by hackers to discover identities on unsecured networks. By installing VPN on your mobile device or computer, you can avoid becoming the victim of hotspot sniffing"

http://www.adeepbite.com/5-reasons-why-you-should-use-vpn/

Yes, installing most vpn's on pc will show a dialog if we want to install a TAP-Win32 adapter. It is because the VPN is using OpenVPN protocol which is safer than pptp or l2tp/ipsec.

It is safe to click install.

Spotflux and Cyberghost are known programs.

Avast SecureLine is based on Witopia which is a well known vpn provider so it should be ok. It is better than Cyberghost.
