Question about a blocked site.
« on: November 04, 2012, 08:08:11 PM »
For the last few days a site I go to (target.com) causes a pop saying its a malicious url. If avast detects a malicious site should you still be able to surf that site,,or should it block it altogether. I can surf targets site after the pop up warning. Matter of fact I even tried it on another back up older laptop and still get the malicious warning, and yes avast is up to date. Now if I open the site and just pick any department,,then keep it in my favorites,,,reboot the computer,,open my favs and click on it,,I don't get the pop up alert,,,seems only on targets home page. I don't have to reboot for this,,just tried it once,,,but like I say if I enter targets addy in the browser I will get the pop up warning when it opens to their home page. This is the only site doing it.

Yea its kinda wierd,,like I said if I save lets say, their electronics dept, in my favorites and go back later on and open it from there I don't get the pop-up. BTW,,I'm on AOL,,which I believe uses IE as a browser,,but even if they don't,,if I open IE and try to go to targets site from there,,I will get the pop-up.

Midnight,,,I am far far from knowing much about computers but try to press,,,alt & print screen at the same time,,,then right click and paste your results somewhere and you should have a screen shot. You'll have to save it somewhere on your computer and add it as an attachment in your post,, at least I think thats how its done. Works for me,,,lol. Pondus could you at least tell me if I should be able to continue at a site that avast blocks,,as my first post in this thread is asking,,,thanks.

Howdy fire,

I would not navigate it as long as avast blocks it. I would not go to a site as Google Safebrowsing alerts it. I would not visit a site that WOT flags.
I would not go to a site that is flagged by DrWeb's URL checker.
I would first establish beyond a doubt the site is clean and safe or the malcode from their site has been closed or dead, before going there.

This is particularly important for visitors of insecure websites and visitors with an OS that is not fully updated or third party software,
that is not updated and patched.

But that is little old me and this is my online attitude.
Iif you want to go on and play a sort of Russian roulette with your clicks, just feel free to and click on wherever you go.
There is enough malware out there to catch a computer cold or even worse...

P.S. What you could do is inform the webmaster or siteowner there and give a link to this thread...

I just called one of the Target stores in our area and spoke to the manager.  I asked him if he was aware that the Target website was being blocked and also told him what it said on the Avast popup.  He said he didn't have any idea about why it would be blocked and would access the website to see whether or not it was still blocked.  Thanked me for calling.

I've submitted a possible false/positive to the avast team.
