Blue balls are gray
« on: February 04, 2005, 06:22:58 PM »
Just installed Avast 4.5 Home on a new computer with Windows XP Home.

Avast seems normal except that the two balls labeled "a" and "i" on the tak bar are gray instead of blue.  Also, the "a" ball has a red circle with bar on it.

How do I turn these on?

Thanks,

David,

The Red circle & bar should not be there unless you turn Avast off manually. The default is no red circle. I've just had a similar problem and it was caused by ODBC damage after I updated to Internet Explorer V6 SP1.

If you haven't done it, install XP Service Pack 2.. SP2 and then go to Windows Update and install the latest security patches. This may correct the problem, probably caused by a bad load of ODBC or MDAC in XP Home.

Also check to make sure you have V6 SP1 of IE and get the latest security patches. It will also update Outlook Express to V6 as well.

Hope that helps.....Keith
