Issues getting rid of Norton
« on: February 05, 2005, 02:34:19 AM »
Hello!

I have had avast! for several months now, and it appears to be doing something, because every few days, it announces that "Virus databases have been updated." But I realized after I installed it that I still have a version of Norton (Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition) on my computer. It is left over from my time at university, when I was on the campus network.

I have tried several times to remove Norton through "Add/Remove Programs" the Control Panel, and every time I highlight Norton and click Add/Remove, the Norton installation Wizard tries to start!

Is there a really obvious solution to this problem and am I just missing it? I know there is another posting on this forum that talks about a Rnav2003.exe utility that removes Norton, but the link it sends you to says you should try to Add/Remove first, and I don't want to be hasty.

Suggestions, please?

Use add/remove, than use the util. That will do it.

Thanks for the response!

Add/Remove, and then the utility? But Add/Remove doesn't do anything except try to install again. Should I just use the utility right away?

Yup, use the util. Than check manually to see if there is anything left and remove it.

I went to get the utility, and the instructions said not to use it for Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

Is there some other way?

Tnank you very much! I have manually uninstalled Norton (at last!).

Do I need to reinstall avast! to make sure it is working right?

Neah, shouldn't be needed. Check if the providers are started and that there is no red cross over the blue ball.
