Why is the Windows 8 problem STILL not resolved?
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:07:21 AM »
Today I downloaded and installed the latest Avast thinking you must surely have resolved the irq_not_equal BSOD by now.

I was wrong.

I've been a Pro user for years, currently with a two year license.  I expect a response as to how soon this will be resolved.

Thank you.

You can try this patch

http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/patches/

Please follow the instructions to the point.

The problems will be resolved soon and Avast developers are working on it. You can check it here

Thanks, I may try that but now I realize that each time this happens, it knocks out sound on my computer.

Even though I've removed Avast and rebooted, I have no sound.  The last time this happened was a few weeks ago when I first went from the beta to released version of Win 8 and encountered the BSOD problems.

Today's was the typical aswnet.sys problem and I've no idea how it can be knocking out my sound.  No problems in device manager, no error messages, sound seems to be working as far as the OS is concerned but I don't actually get any sound.

DXDiag attached in case that helps.

Edit - Reinstalling the sound driver and rebooting seems to be the only way to restore sound.

Can you go to Device Manager and see if every audio device is working? Perhaps you can unistall and install it it again. Or check if there are any driver updates.

You can submit a ticket here http://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=tickets&_a=submit

Yes, as I mentioned, no errors / flags were showing in device manager and when I tested sound, it seemed to be working fine, just without actually making any sound.

I'm hesitant to re-install Avast even with the patch now due to this.

Have none of the other BSOD sufferers mentioned other drivers being knocked out like this?

Cheers.

I just took the chance and followed your instructions to add the patch.

I'm just back from the reboot only to find that my sound has gone again.

I've no choice but to remove Avast until this is resolved.

I'm very disappointed.  It isn't as though Windows 8 suddenly appeared as a surprise.

Are you sure Avast! is causing the problem, and it's not a system issue that Avast! is just triggering? It seems really odd that Avast! would cause something like this. Have you checked to make sure your drivers are up-to-date for the sound card in case it's a known bug?

I quite agree that it does seem very odd.  The facts seem to point that way, however since I've had no sound issues whatsoever whilst Avast isn't installed and the BSOD message everyone receives certainly points to a driver conflict.

Right now I decided to try one last thing.  I've re-installed my sound driver (yes it is the latest, BTW) and rebooted in order to return my sound.  Avast is still installed.  As long as there is no BSOD and my sound remains even after a reboot, perhaps I'll be fine.

Cheers.

Windows 8 is NOT ready, not degugged, and all Win 8 users at this point are Guinne Pigs!  This is why throughout history, new O.S.s were not used until the 1st service pack arrived. Microsoft Engineers are having problems with Windows 8, everything is.  It's just too new!

I have the same problem at Avast Internet Security.

Just Might A´n Solutions to your Problem with Avast in Windows 8 .

In the Avast BSOD..  _IRQL_E*** Bla bla bla.... ass ussaualy .... fail... "Some goes arg arg"

But look closely at the Send to Microsoft informations..  "They say witch file is BAD"

And here at my machine is it the Firewall.. system dll.. from avast so i resolute take Down my avast firewall..

And Take Microsoft firewall to the highest security funktions it have,, and no more BSOD to me:...

So try this... "Avast Programmer are on it but they say it Microsoft there got the problem
and they say avast got the problem"
  >But i say some on did clean out behind the frezzer"

try that. might take Down som issue...

Until Avast ... make update NeXT time...

PS: My Spelling is BEEP.... hope yell all understand some ting of it..

There are so many lies in that statement, I'm not even sure where to start. Let's see...

1. Bugs always exist. Theoretically, for every bug fixed, 1/4th of another is created.
2. You can't possibly predict all the problems you will run into when releasing something.
3. The first service pack wouldn't even be comprehensible as possibly existing until the bugs were found, which wouldn't be found unless the OS was released as it was to begin with.

+1 That is why I never buy W8 until the 1st service pack is release, always stick to you're OS for as long as you can until the end of OS support.

Win8 is working perfectly here, no bugs and all programs function as normal.

I think many of the issues have arisen due to users not getting all the correct drivers and thanks to Asus they've given win8 compatible updates to every single one of mine  :)
