No Craig, that is the normal protected mode which has been present since IE8 at least. The Enhanced Protection Mode takes it much further and the setting is in the advanced Internet Options under Security. It basically locks down access to areas that the browser shouldn't need access to, like your personal information. It's not enabled by default because not all IE addons are compatible yet.

You can also see the option for Do Not Track which is enabled by default. This is a very secure browser and needs no addons to make it so. I do have the privacychoice tracking list installed though and it blocks almost all ads. Now Avast needs to make the Script Shield work with it and it will be perfect.

You can't view it? let me try to fix that.
How about now? If it still doesn't work, I'll upload it to Photobucket instead of Skydrive. I had forgotten to make the file public, it should work now.

Yeah I can see it now, I hadn't noticed that feature hidden away in there, so what does it actually enhance  ??? I'v just looked it up, that feature has been there since Vista with IE7 but has been firther hardened for IE10   http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2012/03/14/enhanced-protected-mode.aspx

Read this:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2012/03/14/enhanced-protected-mode.aspx

The article is a little old and it actually works better than it did in the Win 8 Beta but you can see how it works.

There is more info here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/archive/2012/03/23/understanding-ie10-enhanced-protected-mode-network-security-addons-cookies-metro-desktop.aspx

It does more in Win 8 than in Win 7 and it does nothing at all in 32 bit versions of Windows.

Are these the settings you're using?

Thank you.  I'll change mine to the way yours are set.  After I do that do I need to restart my computer?

Actually, to get Enhanced Protection Mode to work, you do need to restart.

Only the browser needs restarting, not the computer.
