Problems after avast 4.5 pro installation
« on: February 08, 2005, 11:18:26 PM »
I have installed avast pro 4.5.514 to 5 pc's all running Xp pro no problems but one PC is having script errors when opening internet explorer and after pressing enter to go to a web page. Also avast will crash everytime trying to access the settings with some king of scripting host error and also windows media player 10 crashes with an internal error

I had norton 2004 before which I removed.

Any ideas? If I uninstall avast the problems go away as soon as I install it they come back

First, I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

I think norton 2004 might have removed files from microsoft scripting so I will try to install scripting 5.6 from microsoft to see if problem it's fixed

NAV 2004 and others on occasion are proving a pig to get rid of, there is no tool to remove all traces by all accounts you have to manually remove some registry entries. Good luck with the MS scripting, but I think it is more a file associations thing were NAV was intercepting script files and then handing them off to the script runtime executable.

If you click on HelpfulShortcuts in my signature, you'll find a link to a removal tool of NAV.
Be sure to follow all the directions and let us know how you make out.

There currently is no tool to remove NAV 2004 other than add remove programs.

From your link.

Sorry David that should have said Removal Instructions. Apparently their removal tool is now ancient history. :'(

There would be no need for a tool if they sorted the rubbish it left behind after a regular uninstall. I think that they are suffering from the delusion that no one in there right mind would want to remove NAV ;D
