Has avast! Thrown Desktop Users Under The Bus for Mobile?
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:01:52 PM »
I have used avast! for about two years plus.   Over the last several months I have experienced more poblems with avast! and seen more critical problems posted on this forum than in the combined two years or so before the last several months.

My guess is that this is a human resources problem; i.e. finding enough good people to make sure things are done correctly.   My second guess is that this is due to an ever expanding portfolio of products offered by avast! including the relatively new mobile version.

I don't use the mobile version however my guess is that the mobile version is not having nearly the number of problems that the desktop version is.

Would anyone from avast! care to comment truthfully about my last guess without being sarcastic?

hi,

Well, Microsoft could be said to have thrown desktop users under the bus with Windows 8.  Might be worth pondering for a moment or two.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797

I'm not familiar with the mobile version, since I have no need (or desire) for mobile devices.  But is it possible that the mobile version has fewer and/or less complex features than the standard (desktop) version, and that might account for the differences?  Less to go wrong ("fewer moving parts" analogy), in other words?

Well, I was going to type up a post about how all of the recent problems with Avast! have somewhat shaken my confidence in the product.  I don't know what is the source of all the problem I and others have been experiencing, but it really makes me wonder if perhaps the product (AIS in my case) has gotten too complicated.  I love Avast! and still have it loaded on my main computer.  My machine runs well with AIS loaded and it seems to play well with MBAM Pro.

After all the blue screens and lack of working sandbox that i have experienced, I really wonder what is and what is not working with the product.  It is hard to maintain faith in the product after a few months of big trouble.  I know the update server issue is totally unrelated, but it just adds more worry to the situation for me.

Maybe it is time to try a different product.

I have found that most errors are due to upgrades vs. clean installs.  And yes, it is hard to do clean installs with pushed updates.  Whenever we have an issue, we will use aswclear in safe mode (remove all A/V leftovers), and try again.  Over 95% of the time we are good to go!

I always do clean installs as well.  I have just had nothing but trouble for the last two or three versions, however.  The amount of big problems noted on this board seems much bigger than normal as well.  It really has shaken my confidence that all parts of the program are working as they should.  Confidence is funny.  Once it is gone, it takes some time to come back.   :-\

I have to agree with most people here, its seemed like Version 7 has been everything but working right, but that is to be expected with how many people use this software and how every system is different.

But my problem is with this being a support forum, I never did get my support for my problems with safezone, and even after it was supposidly fixed It didnt work then either.

I liked the product, but when one of the features doesnt work at all, and then after various updates it still doesnt work it makes me feel like i was cheated out of my money for a inferior product.

I've read all the previous posts. I'm here for ten years. I'm quite sure you're overreacting.
I've seen other more difficult problems. The architecture of Android and the complexity of Windows, the huge amount of combinations on 170+ million users... seem to be the difference between the "problems" of the versions.
I've used version 7 since from the early betas. Did I have problems? Yes. Anything that will shake my confidence? For sure not.

Couldn't agree more, but that seems to be his style, his last post is another example, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=109950.msg865835#msg865835. Emailing 170+ million users, that is more likely to get avast flagged as a spammer and cause an even worse reaction than the problem it would attempt to resolve.

I certainly don't believe avast! has Thrown Desktop Users Under The Bus for Mobile (gross over exaggeration) when no doubt there is no robbing Peter to pay Paul, taking developers of avast desktop products to develop avast! Mobile Security.

Who is "he"?

You have cropped the quote too much, it looks out of context, I'm saying the reverse of the quote.

I know. That was my intention: to corroborate.
