Can't start scans
« on: November 24, 2012, 08:07:34 PM »
From what I can tell, everything else on my Avast install (Free 7.0.1474) works perfectly.  But, I can't configure or start any virus scans.  I click on the "Scan Computer" tab and it takes me to the Scan Now screen.  But all of the buttons pertaining to the types of scans are blank.  There's no text, nothing to click on, and the buttons/icons themselves are unselectable.

I asked Support about this before and they gave me instructions for uninstalling using the removal tool.  I've already done that and reinstalled the software.  But I'm right back where I started.

All I really know is that, at one point, those buttons worked and now they don't.  :/

I'm on Win 7 32-bit SP1
ZoneAlarm for firewall's the only other security software I have right now
I had Norton 360 on here before, but that was, like, a year ago.

It's only been in the last month or so that Avast started behaving like this.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AVs. (Norton)
-> http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.
