Win8 Mail APP partial dysfunction

Hi...  I see a couple topics on the subject, but no posts lately, so...

I have Win8 Pro 64bit, Avast Free 7.0.1474, engine/virus defs 121127-0. 

Using the Win8 "Mail" APP... with Mail Shield on, only Hotmail and Outlook.com work fine... Gmail can receive but can't send... Yahoo and AOL emails don't work at all, nor does any IMAP defined account... failing to sync.

Is this known? Worked on? Is there a way to fix? 

Yes, I know about redirecting to/scavenging from a working account (Hotmail/Outlook.com).
And I have Thunderbird in Desktop, but...
....if there's a way to make Win8 Mail App work with Mail Shield on...  ??
For the time being, I have everything Avast! Free enabled except Mail Shield... and Mail app works fine...Thanks. >;}
(I have plenty of email guards/filters and know what not to open.)

Just some info: I'm also running Win8
I am not having a problem send/receiving with my 'Google' account( @gmail.com)

I have a single plain vanilla 'classic' Gmail account. 

I can receive into Gmail in Win8 Mail...
...but when I go to send, the mail just goes to the Outbox and sits there.... account 'unavailable'.
As soon as I turn off 'scan outbound', then Gmail account Win8 Mail Outbox empties (sends).

I have multi-checked my outgoing server settings...
smtp.gmail.com, full email address/password, SSL required, port 465, authentication...  ("same as incoming").
I have deleted and redefined account... however, if mail shield is on, then acct definition can't connect.

Does anyone have IMAP working account in Windows 8 Mail APP (with Avast! Mail Shield on, scanning in/outbound)?

So...

I submitted a trouble ticket, and here is the sum total senior tech support specialist response:

"The default mail application in Windows 8 is not standard e-mail client and avast! doesn't support it."

Hmm.  Looks like there's a new sheriff, uh...standard...in town, sonny.

Oh, well... if Avast wants to stay a retro AV tool... guess I can leave them to it.
Maybe I'll suggest something more forward looking in my response.  At least, that they respond with a more forward looking answer in the future... like "we're working on it"... but... I'm left to guess, they're not.
I'll edit this if they provide a better answer.

And... a few days later, another answer...

"We are trying to find a solution, but it will take some time."

Alrighty, then.
