MSE and Avast Internet Security conflict??
« on: December 04, 2012, 10:15:58 PM »
I am having some major issues with connectivity.  My processor is running full bore (100%) usage a lot.  I have my updates set for every 240 minutes as the default.
I went to Bleepingcomputers and a technician, after looking thoroughly at my system told me since I have both MSE and paid Avast, I should uninstall Avast, since there is a possible conflict there.
I am techno challenged... could someone please help out this "old Lady".  Thanks!

never run more then one AV

your computer will be slow, get mysterious windows errors and false positive detections

so uninstall one, then run the removal tool and reboot to clear any leftover files that may conflict

I honestly want to keep my Avast.  He suggested keeping MSE instead of Avast.  What should I do??  I'm at my wits end right now and I don't know what to do.

do you want the one that detect the newest malware.....or the one that detect it a month after the others.....it is your choice     ;)

Well in all fairness to MSE it does not have a zero-day protection component so it stands to reason it will fail.
But yes mse does seem to be struggling at the moment. 8)

Just my opinion but I would keep Avast and dump MSE.

Thank you so much Pondus.  I checked the info at techspot as you said.  I AM KEEPING MY AVAST... it has served me well for 3 years now, I just needed another opinion and I am very thankful your response was an unbiased one.
Have a good day!!

If avast came last on one of these "tests" would everyone abandon avast?
I say if it is protecting your computer then stick with it and disregard these one off tests. 8)

I am glad you got a good laugh.  I do not know a lot about computers and their inner workings, I am elderly and handicapped.  I am still having issues... check out my new thread, maybe it will give you a good laugh too.  That was a very rude thing to say...
Have a great day! :)
