@streim,
The answer is only one AV at a time. Therefore to run avast! and not have any conflicts, MSE needs to be uninstalled.

Actually looking back at your first post of this thread you were quite rude and not helpful at all
LOL..................Funniest thread I have seen in a long time. "Help my CPU is running at 100%". Oh yeah.....................I am running two antiviruses also. Well duh. Can a 500 lbs woman drive a moped without it limping along?  ::)

Only rude if you are easily offended. Its just words. If s simple statement such as what I wrote offends someone then they need thicker skin.

As Bob mentioned if you cant help then don't bother posting as your arrogance only gives people the wrong impression of the help we try to provide on this forum.

It takes more effort to join a support forum then it does to Google the problem yourself. Any question you want to know in this world can be answered by merely Googling it. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. I am a self taught person. Anything I don't understand I Google it. Its called advice and not a rude statement. Isn't the internet called "The information highway"?

It is easier to be nice than nasty. It's also better to help someone than to show your own arrogance. or, ignorance or both.

A valid statement, still your wording/phrasing could be "nicer" sometimes..!! ;)

never run more then one AV

your computer will be slow, get mysterious windows errors and false positive detections

so uninstall one, then run the removal tool and reboot to clear any leftover files that may conflict

http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

This is the generally accepted opinion.   However, it is not exactly correct.

It is okay to run a two AV programs if the second one installed recognizes that you have another AV program running and the second AV turns off its real-time scanning.    So one may ask what is the point of installing a second AV program if it turns off its real-time protection?    Depends on the AV program.  If it has many other useful features you may want to install it; e.g. auto AV definition updates and scheduled scans among numerous other features that are not in the avast! AIS 7.   Also by installing the second program you can run on-demand scans without having to manually run the program and wait while it updates its AV database.

I have been running such a combination for months;   avast! AIS 7 in real-time detection mode and brand X in compatibility mode.   They work great together and I have no slow noticeable slowdown in my computers.

So it is true that should never run two AV programs together in real-time mode, however running two AV programs at one time works dependis on the AV programs and whether one of them turns off its real-time scanning when it is installed.

Others may have a different experience

So you've been lucky. It is however not the recommended procedure or general advice.
Since the user asked a direct question, the advice to remove one AV before installing another is the
correct and accepted advice that should be followed.
