Hi Nesivos,

The experience should not be different. A resident and non-resident av solution can be happily run alongside each other. So Bitdefender's 60-seconds AV scanner can run fine alongside avast resident av solution. So is combining avast, MBAM and SAS.
VTZilla extension site and download scan can be made to run inside the browser without conflicts with your resident avast AV.
It is two resident solutions that will give the conflicts, like you have two dogs fighting over each other's signature-bones, providing either less security than you aimed for. There can also be other incompatibilities as certain FWs with certain anti-malware are conflicting. Also Panda non-resident solution signatures come flagged by avast (but that is that the signatures are not hidden), etc. But there is always a way to make up a good "brew" of anti-malware solutions combined with particular browser security extensions to get a good layered overall protection without having to go into "overkill",

<snip>
They work great together and I have no slow noticeable slowdown in my computers.
<snip>

This is more by luck than design, unless the AV has been designed to run on-demand and is installed as such, otherwise it loads low level drivers to hook file so that they can be scanned. Simply disabling resident scanning in an on-access AV doesn't stop the loading of the low level driver and it is these drivers that can come into conflict.

At best this could just be duplication of scanning and greater resource use (possibly slowing performance) or at worst these to drivers could lock the system, which should it happen on boot could lock you out of your system.

Please read here regarding the installation of multiple antivirus solutions. -> http://experts.windows.com/w/experts_wiki/89.aspx

I would like to see Avast publish an article similar to this so Microsoft's work does not need to be used to prove a point.

I have experienced system lockups due to multiple av's. It does happen. If it doesn't, you are just having a lucky day.

Off-topic but worth mentioning. Also, there is mention of registry cleaners in this article. Please read the given link regarding this. It mentions backing up your data and updating your pc. These are very important things that you should know (and perform) in addition to not installing multiple av's.

You gain nothing. Absolutely nothing out of using two antiviruses. As in matter of fact it will do the opposite of what you think. Two antiviruses will conflict over who fights the malware. Hence making your vulnerable to infections. Just cause you use 2 doesn't mean your better protected then one. Isn't that why there MBAM and several portable on demand second opinion scanner. If your that paranoid then why bother turning your pc on.  ::)

If avast came last on one of these "tests" would everyone abandon avast?
I say if it is protecting your computer then stick with it and disregard these one off tests. 8)

It will NEVER happen.  The amount of effort keeping avast! at the top of the heap is incredible.  Avast! puts way more R&D into their A/V than any other vendor in the world!
Sincerely,

No, but we will complain until we got it back to the top.

Hi Tech,

It is as with affinity. When you start to analyze what the magic of it is, the very same moment it is gone. Same with avast...
