Win8: avast! Mail Shield blocks Yahoo Mail on Mail Live Tile
« on: December 05, 2012, 09:41:02 PM »
Found a bug on Mail Shield  with Windows 8 and Mail Live Tile. It blocks access to Yahoo Mail instantly. I have tried various settings, seems disabling scanning of inbound and outbound messages does not help - the only way app can access Yahoo Mail service is to disable Mail Shield. Strange, but this does not affect Live Mail account on this app.

Any ideas of workaround without disabling Mail Shield? It not firewall for sure, it is enough to disable mail shield to get access to Yahoo Mail on Mail Live Tile.

Screens:

Error while Mail Shield is enabled        Mail App

Actually, I was not able to add Yahoo account on Mail app without disabling Mail Shield.

I am not sure, but I think Mail Live Tile uses the last entries to connect to Yahoo Mail (Port 993, TCP). It only appears the I press "Sync" on Mail app. As I understand, Port 993 stands as encrypted IMAP, but I can't get any warning avast Mail Shield detected encrypted connection.

Two more screens - Yahoo Mail settings on Windows Mail Tile and avast Mail Shield settings I've entered. No effect...  :o

At last - solved  8) The solution was kinda strange, I figured out I need to turn off "Automatically detect and warn about unprotected SSL connections". Now Mail Live Tile works and connects to Yahoo! Mail without problem. So the only problem here - default settings.
