Avast Internet Security Crashes / Win 7
« on: December 09, 2012, 11:28:17 PM »
I've been having problems with A.I.S for a few days now, I do everything through the safezone nowadays and I also run a lot of my programs virtually, But the problem is, After a number of hours. Say about 6, Avast tends to spaz randomly, Max out one of my cores and stop responding, so I have to end up restarting the whole computer to restart Avast, I'm not quite sure why this is currently happening as It never happened with Avast! Free.
Quick side notes.
1: I run scans near enough daily. (Boot scans)
2: I browse safely these days and never download anything.
3: Avast has never picked up on anything.
Computer specs are.
Intel i5-2500k,
8Gb Ram
Win 7 Home Premium with SP1 installed.

why ?....you have a antivirus with real time protection

and boot scan is not ment as a daily scanner

The boot-time scanner is an expert feature, and was designed to be used when there’s something bad going on on the system.

Alright, thanks for the heads up, Still didn't help with the OP, even If I were to delete System files by accident that wouldn't worry me all to much as I have my Win7 disk at the ready whenever, more to the point, could you shed light on my problem?

do you have any other security programs installed?....was your computer delivered with a preinstalled trail av ?
what antivirus did you use before avast?
did you remove it before installing avast?
did you run a removal tool to clear any leftover files that may conflict?

uninstaller tools, run and reboot   http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

The answers to your questions are.
1: No, Just A.I.S / My computer was built by myself.
2: No AV before because this computer is just over a month old.
3: I've had to reinstall Avast a few times because of problems.
4: I've never ran a removal tool.

If you are running a lot of programs virtually using Windows 7 check the RAM usage on DWM.exe. ever hour or so after you start up.    It can really add up especially if you do not have a graphics card or a graphics card with limited memory.

Quote
The DWM has surfaces for all windows opened on the desktop.  These can quickly add up to a lot of memory.  Generally these surfaces are all in video  ram but the video driver allocates system memory to back surfaces...  The sidebar, the desktop, and the task bar are all also windows represented this way.

How many windows do you have open and what resolution do you run?

That summerizes it.

Ah! Thanks, that seems to help out. Since I'm running off the i5's onboard. "Intel HD 3000", 64Mb dedicated, I tend to play "Garrys Mod" quite alot, For 5 hours at a time, the power supply whines alot of course. But you may have a good point there and I'll be sure to look out for it.
