I tried to make changes to the avast.ini file but it keeps telling me access denied. What could be wrong?

The ini file is protected by self-defense module (Settings > Troubleshooting).
But only edit what you're sure you need :)

You are probably using another text editor and not notepad which is the only authorised text editor which has write permission when opening the avast5.ini any other only has Read permissions. So you will come up against permission/access issues when trying to modify/save the changes.

Maybe you are logged on as a restricted user that doesn't have access to the corresponding folder?
