Forgot my password on my free avast...
« on: December 24, 2012, 04:48:09 PM »
I made some new settings in my free avast a couple of weeks ago.
I put also on it manual updates and he cries every day for updating.

But I cannot do anything with it, because I forgot my access password (bad idea, to put password in it, I could find a better entertainment).

Even if I try do give him the OK to update, avast keeps asking me the access password.
I don't know how to reset or remove this password.

Now my free avast is frozen in my last settings. Can you help me?

Thank you! George

I'm in the same boat as George.... :-\ I thought I would be clever by increasing the security to maximum and requiring a password to change every little thing on Avast settings, but I realised after saving the settings and Avast launched into a boot scan that I hadn't made a note of the password and had chosen one that was really difficult to crack, again, thinking how clever I was being  :-[ ::)
I tried finding out how to reset the password from Avast itself, then the website, until I stumbled across this forum. I still couldn't find a way to reset the password as all the entries I read were about resetting your password for your Avast account, or your Avast forum membership. I thought I would give it a try again today after logging on and being greeted by the Avast voice and a big yellow 'caution' sign still menacing it's fear-inducing warning over the Avast icon. Finally my Avast forum activation email had arrived by today too, so I was able to log on in here and lo and behold, find this thread. Thank you George!!  ;D
Thank you Pondus for supplying the solution too. I will be following your advice and uninstalling and re-installing, only this time, I will make a note of the password in a secure place (which is not my memory unfortunately :o  ::) !

Welcome to the forum Cindy.
My advice to my audience during the Avast sponsored security presentation simply states:
"Write down your secure password on a sticky note and attach it to your refrigerator.
The cyber crook will, sooner or later, get to your computer. He/she isn't very likely going to get to your refrigerator".  ;D

I'm new to Avast!  So far, it's been a nightmare.  I paid for internet security and have an account, but I can't access the acount because I'm constantly told I'm using the wrong pass word.  I KNOW MY PASSWORD!!!  So, I tried to reset my password.  OK, an e-mail has been generated...so I wait.  Nothing was sent.  I tried again and again, NOTHING WAS SENT.  The first problem I had was an e-mail issue.  I sent a question (ticket) to support about something else.  I was informed that a response will be emailed shortly.  I got nothing on either of my computers (one of which does not have Avast! yet).  If these problems persist, I'm going to have to cancel my subscription and get my money back.  I cannot understand how so many people are using this service after all the problems I've encountered.  Can someone just tell me how I can get into my account without having to go through all this unnecessary nonsense?  I have much better things to do with my time and Avast! is getting paid for it, not me!

Title above is incorrect.  IT'S NOT A FREE ACCOUNT...I PAID FOR IT!  How on earth did that incorrect title get there?  Certainly not by me!

That's what happens when you hijack some one else's thread.
Start your own topic and you get to name it, hijack some one else's and your post appears under their title.
