This will remove all the related clsid's  for Avast.  Also on the c drive is there an Avast set up file

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Ran the fix, still getting the 5 popups during boot-up and the in-browser warnings that Avast will be opening web content outside the Protected mode.

I have attached the log produced by OTL after the fix and reboot and also the log after running a Quick scan.

Hi,

please start Windows Explorer and enable viewing hidden files AND protected operating system files in the Windows Explorer options. Then check if there is a file called "Program" (not a directory, but a file) directly located under C:\ on your hard disk. If there is such a file (not a directory and only if the file is exactly named "Program"), delete it, run the avast! Uninstall Tool, reboot and try to run the setup again. That should work.

To which directory/folder should I point the uninstall tool if I have no easily visible traces of any Avast files left on my computer ?

No need to point it to any folder as it will continue with the removal elements

Many thanks, this simple action finally resolved the issue (even before running the uninstall tool) and now I am completely Avast-free. Thanks again for everyone's help and time.
