I just installed Avast Mobile Security (then uninstalled everything but the Anti-Theft component to ensure it wasn't obvious that my phone was being monitored.)
Unfortunately there is still an easy ways of detecting whether the software is installed:
Android Task Manager alert pops up after 45 minutes, warning that the program with <custom name> (the name I chose during installation for use as the App Disguiser) has been running for a long time - do I want to close it?
Upon examination of this application (as you would naturally do if you didn't know what it was) in Settings -> Applications -> Running Services, the process list is shown, in which avast.android.antitheft is listed as the main process.
I therefore have three questions:
1) Should this task be running, or can I close it (i.e. is it necessary to have it running to respond to the remote operations)?
2) If it is necessary to be running, is there a way of turning off the long-running task warning for specific tasks?
3) It possible to somehow rename the process (on installation) to the custom name?
Cheers,
Rich
