Hi electric landlady,

I'm just a forum member here.

It's not normal for Avast to block applications that aren't infected, unless it's the sandbox giving you hassles...

Open Avast and select "additional protection" then select "autosandbox" and here you can add exclusions.

Please could you let us know what version of Avast and Operating system you are running?
Are you running additional security software?

EDIT: It might be worth adding it to trusted processes in the behavioural shield.

Open Avast and select "real-time shields" and select "behavioural shield" then click on "expert settings".
Finally select "trusted processes" and add the Sound-card application/s there.

Regards,
Hellion

thanks for your reply i am running xp pro 32 bit with the 3 gig switch boot in ,and the latest avast antivirus free, i found that disabling  the sheilds lets the soundcard open then i restart the sheilds and all is good but i will try what you suggest . thanks

hi there Hellion,
putting the soundcard as an exclusion in sandbox seemed to make no difference as regards how long it took the soundcard to open . with the behavioural shield active and with the soundcard added in  it`s exclusions it took the soundcard 5 mins to open, with the behavioural shield disabled it took the soundcard 40 seconds to open which is sort of normal cause it has to load up some fx . i`m just wondering if i should leave the behavioural sheild disabled, thanks.

Hi electric landlady,

In "Auto-sandbox"  you must add it to "exclusions" - Remember to exclude it from read/write and execution scanning.
In Auto-sandbox there is a list "files that will be excluded from automatic sand-boxing" - it must be added there too.

Make sure that application doesn’t have more than one process... They must all be added

Are you running the latest version of your sound card utility/driver?

dis-regard my last comment i didn`t realise the "behavioural shield" was still disabled ,so i re enabled it and hoped it would work , but no the e-mu didn`t load  . so what i have done is -  disabled my soundcard from loading up and once avast is up and running i just open the soundcard which is quicker all round. thanks anyway

Have you reported the detection of your sounddriver as a false positive to avast! ???
The name and path of the driver might also help us to pin down the problem.

thanks for your reply ,no i haven`t reported it .these are all the paths i have added to the behavioural shield and sandbox exclusions ,but it seems to be the behavioural shield that blocks the soundcard . the sound card splash screen appears but then gets stuck for 5 mins when loading fx presets.

It is the latest driver which came out in 2008.

Looks like you aren't the only one with problems with that sound card:

Does your computer have a built in sound card on the motherboard ???
Have tried to see if that one works without problems ???
