Aren't the icons just hidden? I mean, it's a feature of Windows XP to hide inactive tray icons after some items. There's a small left-arrow icon that lets you see all the icon though. ;)

I have almost the same problem! Suddenly the avast tray icons have dissapeared.

However, I see that the processes are still running in my task manager:
ashMaiSv.exe
ashServ.exe
ashWebSv.exe
aswUpdSv.exe

What might be the problem?

Thanks, I tried it, but it didn't help..

Also (before trying the fix) I tried the repair function through "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel of XP.

Any other ideas? -Is avast running as it should even though the icons are not visible?

will i got news' for Avast! tech my Tray icon is gone even the Blue-ball that scan when system is idle ( I ) it no were to be found seem the only way to get it back is re-instill the Avast! software back in even then after restart the system it gone again.

the Blue-ball with ( A ) stays there, but the blue-ball with ( I ) is gone for good. ::)

i know about the idle thing but if its running it still not showing up at all?

never had trouble with the ( A ) blue ball missing and they are not together ether under the (A) Ball. they are set in their own balls.

i try it already it only fix the A-ball but i never had trouble with it, try it anyway it the VBR scan ball (I) that is gone not the A-Ball. look at my post above you should see the A-Ball (attachment) there without the I-ball at all. it too should been seen when it running not so thats were i am having trouble with.

is it possible that you could have accidentally merged the icons together.?

nope they are set apart from each other, i never had them set together under the A-Ball at all, like them that way in their own Balls (A) & (I)

Attachment shows only A-Ball with it option (I) not included in A-Ball at all.

by the way i did go into Add & Remove to avast! to get the option to repair it too did not fix it ether for the I-Icon.

If you invoke VRDB update manually, won't the 'i' icon appear again?
Isn't it hide (XP hide icon feature)?
