Boot Scan is WAY too fast.
« on: February 05, 2013, 04:55:31 PM »
So, I had some problems installing a program and one of the recommended solutions was to do a virus check. Thinking it had been a while, I scheduled a boot scan and eminently restarted my computer. I got to the boot scan screen as usual but the scan ended in literary 2 seconds, then windows started. In the log it said that no viruses were found, but i really doubt that it can scan  700 GB it two seconds.

So, any idea what went wrong? Is it a virus doing this or am I still secured?

Oh yeah, I'm running win8 if that makes any difference.

What version of avast?
If you are beta testing v8.0 there is no Win8 support...yet.
If you are using v7.0.xxx try running a "full" scan.  :)

Abnormal! Unless your pc is a rocket ie very fast processor and lots of ram unlikly!

Did you open avast gui and select boot time scan and select only one file or folder?!
you should select ALL HARDISKS & REBOOT!

This is a common issue with v8.0 beta. When a user does a clean install of v8.0 beta the boot/set-up scan takes only a few seconds.
I did notice the OP is using an XP which v8.0 beta has issues with.  :)

I have Avast 7, not 8, but I will check if there's something wrong with the settings

One thing I failed to ask was, were you prompted to do a boot scan?

If nothing shows up after a default full scan there is no reason to run a boot scan.
A boot scan is there if and only if something screwy shows up with a full scan.
Otherwise there is absolutely no reason to run a boot scan.
I haven't needed to run a boot scan in years.  :)
