Web-scanner once more
« on: February 22, 2005, 06:28:05 PM »
Hi, I'm a new member of this crowd.

After upgrading Avast 4.5 to 4.6 there's a new feature's process starting up, ashwebsv.exe.

This process slowdown my system, memory-check says 80%.
Is it right, this process isn't necessary on win 9x systems?

I use WinME, actually i stopped running process for Web-Scan.

Thanks for help.

The process is necessary for the Web Shield, even on Win9x.
How exactly did you do the "memory-check"? (whatever it is)
Do you use any firewall? What CPU/memory do you have?

Edit: of course I meant Web Shield, donno why I wrote "Standard Shield"... too many shields around :P

Igor, we're talking ashWebSv.exe here, not ashServ.exe!

Why would ashWebSv.exe be necessary for Standard Shield? It's the implementation of the Web Shield?
Have you set up the web shield in your browser? If not, please see the instructions in the avast help file (in the Resident Protection chapter).

thanks

thanks for replying my question

@igor
I use tuneup utilities2004 for checking ram-memory.
It showed me 80% used memory, this ended when process ashWebSv.exe had been stopped.

After upgrading Avast 4.6 the Comp hanged off by checking configuration data while he booted.

It's an PIII with 633 mhz and 256 MB Ram,
operating system WinME, Firewall Sygate free

@Vlk

Didn't set up the web shield in my browser. Didn't knew the feature since I checked the running processes. In fact, I didn't had the time to configure it right now, must be done this evening at home.

Thanks for help

Seems to me, the problems are gone.
Disabled the WinME file recovery option, enabled Web-shield, reboot and there we go.

I will post again if there are more problems.

Thanks for support.
