Avast Browser Cleanup Tool
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:30:39 PM »
Hi Guys,

I love the Avast 8 Beta it's really good and the new interface is wonderful. The one tool I really love is the Browser Cleanup Tool and I was wondering if you would ever consider releasing this as a separate tool for people who use other A/V products?

-thanks

Welcome to the forum.
I think Avast is hoping that this tool along with avast!'s excellent protection will convince those that use a different AV to change over to avast! :)

There is one.... Called  AdwCleaner.  ;)

You find it here.    http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

OBS....it does not have a update function, so you have to download latest version when you need it

Thanks but I know about AdwCleaner and OTL etc... I'm actually a malware/virus enthusiast and help other people remove stuff manually. They are both great products but they are not that fantastic and tend to leave bits unchecked in browsers like resetting the search engine, tab options etc... especially in browsers like firefox. I also create tutorial videos and explaining how to use these tools especially OTL can be confusing for new users.  So really I wanted this tool separate without having people download a totally new anti-virus product. Of course I would recommend Avast anyway.

-thanks

Then you also know that AdwCleaner is separate.....and not a antivirus product

OTL should only be used by somone trained in the use of it..... If not you can do lots of damage.

Yes I know AdwCleaner is a separate product I was making reference to Avast. I want the Browser Cleanup Tool to be a separate product so when I inform people about the tool they don't have to download and use another anti-virus if they have one on their system. OTL can cause a lot of damage as you said and can be pretty complicated to use for people who are new to this sort of thing hence the Avast tool is much easier to use. AdwCleaner is a good product but doesn't always do a thorough job of resetting everything, especially in firefox.

OTL should never be used by a new or untrained and certified user.
In  the wrong hands, it can do more damage than good.
On this forum, it's only used by the certified Malware Experts when helping someone recover from an infection.

This is what I said, which is why I'm asking about the tool being separate... guess the general answer is no.

-thanks

There is also a Browser Cleanup tool; it's a standalone utility for getting rid of invasive toolbars. This utility is also integrated in all avast! editions just to make things simpler.
W8.1 [x64] - Avast Free AV 23.3.8047.BC [UI.757] - Firefox ESR 102.9 [NS/uBO/PB] - Thunderbird 102.9.1
Avast-Tools: Secure Browser 109.0 - Cleanup 23.1 - SecureLine 5.18 - DriverUpdater 23.1 - CCleaner 6.01
