Problems
« on: February 22, 2005, 11:25:38 PM »
I had avast for a while and and ... its excellent

But now after updating to 4.6, i cannot get web pages to load, i cannot connect to FTP sites, however msn works....
After disabling web shield (pause) everything works fine. How do i get my router (Ovislink air live wg-5424) to allow web shield?

Thanks,
JediPottsy

I have had the same problem. I tried using multiple browsers...Avant, Firefox, IE, Opera and all do the same. I racked my brain on this even resetting the TCP/IP stack to try and fix the problem. Here are the symptoms:

* Page cannot be displayed appears intermittently.
* Refreshing the page sometimes once sometimes numerous times allows the page to     eventually load.
* Pictures are missing from pages randomly

After pausing/stopping the new web shield provider this went away.

Check that your firewall is allowing the ashWebSv.exe (Web Shield) process access to the internet.

JediPottsy, yellowone,

- are you using a firewall?
- if you're using ZoneAlarm, have you read the sticky thread for ZoneAlarm users?
- is the process ashWebSv.exe granted outbound network access in your firewall?

Thanks
Vlk

I have read through these threads and I believe this one describes my problem the best. My firewall is allowing ashWebSv.exe out.

I'd like to use the webshield. But, I get the message 'the connection was refused...'

Any other suggestions?

freakyking, please stay in the other thread. There is no need to sate your problem in different threads. You still haven't answered the questions you where asked there.

Hi,

Got the same problem as described above.
Running:
Windows 2000 SP4, all updates.
Avast 4.6 Home Edtition
Sygate 5.6 Build 2808

If I terminate Web Shield everything works fine, otherwise I have no or intermittent internet connection.

Before upgrading to Avast 4.6 from version 4.5 I had no problems at all.

Jan_Klaassen, did you allowed ashwebsv.exe in the firewall?
If not, do so and see if it solves the problem.

Avast 4.6 Home Edition doesn't seem compatible with Freedom Firewall 4.2.0.65496

Jman, it seems that your firewall is trying to forward all traffic to its process - Freedom.exe. This is something similar what WebShield does, so they forward into each other a no connection will ever leave these two processes.

Could you please try to add the process Freedom.exe into the ignoredprocess list in avast4.ini

[WebScanner]
IgnoreProcess=Freedom.exe

This should help, but it may even cause that no traffic will be scanned at all. Please let us know (you may turn on Detailed Info in WebShield, it's easier to determine when HTTP scanning takes place). If this would be the case, you would have to setup localhost:12080 as your HTTP proxy as well.

el puma, how come in this thread you're saying WebShield does not work at all and in the other you reported a problem with a page that indeed has a problem with WebShield (but is very, very rare)?

So, is it working or not? (with the exception of that page)

Thanks
Vlk
