Avast prevents internet access.
« on: February 07, 2013, 01:08:55 PM »
Hi. I seem to have an issue with Avast on my Windows 8 PC.

Occasionally my pc boots without access to internet or router (can't even access routers page) or looses connection at random. Took me a while but i found out that the culprit was "avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Driver" and avast firewall. They somehow mess up connection with my network controller and prevent firefox/explorer from opening pages. Unchecking that driver and stopping avast firewall service immediately fixes the issue. Rebooting PC couple of times or restarting the controller also helps but it might take several tries.

That issue did not occur previously on Vista.

I've also noticed that windows events lists following warning:

Log Name:      System
Source:        AFD
Date:          2/7/2013 3:18:48 PM
Event ID:      16001
Task Category: None
Level:         Warning
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:
Description:
The description for Event ID 16001 from source AFD cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Afd
\Driver\aswFW

Event Xml:

    <TimeCreated SystemTime="2013-02-07T11:18:48.187092500Z" />
    <EventRecordID>3168</EventRecordID>

  </System>
  <EventData>

  </EventData>
</Event>

Im not sure whether the event related to the the driver and firewall though.
