I have an acquaintance in another forum who uses Avast. She recently had problems, so she joined the Avast forum and logged in once successfully, then logged out again. Since then, as soon as she tries to connect to the Avast forum (before she even attempts to log) on she gets the attached error. She has no idea why she would have been banned. Is she able to find out why?

Since this happens prior to logon, I imagine it's the IP Address being blocked.

The most common cause can be for the email address used being listed on an anti-spam site checked by the forum software or those tasked with checking for spam or addresses listed on spam lists like stopforumspam.com, etc.

But that isn't the only possibility,it could be based on an IP address block of a spammer, but there is no information to say for sure why.

There is a possibility that her email address/account has been compromised and is being used for spam. She could try setting up another forum account using a different email address and user name.

If you can provide her forum user name it might be possible to check it.

I removed her ban. (No entry for email or IP at SFS.)
But if she should post spam, she will get banned again.

Thankyou, but I'm a bit confused. Are you suggesting she was banned because she posted spam? Because AFAIK she hasn't posted anything at all.

1. You're welcome.
2. No, as Dave said,  there can be many reasons, but I won't track it down. (Could have been just a mistake.)

Thanks for your replies to Paul

With regard to this forum, I registered OK, actioned the activation email, logged in and got the welcome message.  I logged off within seconds without even looking at the forum. I then logged in again straightaway with my second PC and got the banned messages when I opened the home page and before I started to try to log in.

Thank you for your offer of help with my Avast issue.

I have never had a message from Avast in all of the years I have had it and now I am getting the one in my attachment virtually all of the time. Clicking on "More details" doesn't work.

There was some difficulty with what file the Technical Support Centre wanted me to send.

Eventually they asked for HiJackThis which indicated that the offending file
c:\program~1saveby~1\sprotr1.dll is still there.

I have had no reply from the Technical Support Centre for several days.  I have sent a number of reminders.

I did a lot of work myself and found that this came from SaveByClick software but the instructions on their website how to uninstall it did not work. http://savebyclick.info/uninstall.html

I then expanded the entry of my HighJackThis listing which showed that the file is still in the Registry see attachment. I sent a copy of this to the Technical Support Centre but with still no reply they keeping marking it Solved but it isn’t.

What is needed is for someone to tell me please how to remove it from the registry.

My username at the Technical Support Centre is pinkcloud and Ticket Number CTR-201212.

Thanks for help

The Avast Technical Support Centre eventually answered me and resolved the matter by instructing me to delete the line in the HiJackThis log file and they then marked the issue "Solved"

Very many thanks for your offer of help.
