Avast Security Warning
« on: February 13, 2013, 08:44:26 PM »
Hi,
i use Mailstorehome to save my e-mails automatically each day. PC starts at 11 am automatically, mailstorehome connects my google mail account and save new E-mails to local disc.
With Avast 8 there is a problem: while mailstore home tries to connect the server, a message box appears and says: Security warning, a lot of text then, and at the bottom i can "View certificate", click "OK" or "Cancel". Now the system waits for clicking one of the buttons, and this is the problem with an automatic solution, because nobody is at home this time!
I tried to view and install the mentioned cetificate, but at the next automatic start the same message box appears again. With Avast 7 never had this issue, with Avast 8 beta the first time, so i think, it belongs to Avast 8 beta.
What can i do? Any chance that this message box does not appear?
Thanks for answering my first post and excuse my english, is not my home language.

Best regards

A screenshot of the error message would be helpful.

That doesn't look like any avast warning to me.

This is more like a browser or email client warning, the avast warnings/alerts tend to be branded or in the style of avast popups.

You don't say what version of avast you are using, free/pro/ais ?

as far as i know, all avast pop-ups have a avast name/logo on it

this seems to be a windows warning!

Which browser are you using ???
Check the settings in your browser under certificates.

Can you also post a screenshot of the page after clicking "View Certificate" button. Please also try to remember exactly what you wanted to do when this popup displayed (what program did you run, what fucntion in a specific program did you used etc).

This will help us identify what is really going on and to who this certificate belongs in the first place.

I use Firefox Browser, and after clicking "view certificate" i can allow the certificate, but at next start it´s the same question.

But when i allways use the same browser with the same settings, and the issue only happens with avast free V8 and NOT with avast free7, it looks to me that it is an avast problem.

See http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939096 which has the Firefox certificate warning.  This doesn't look like Firefox.

http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/927813  Your system date and time can cause valid certs to seem invalid, so check that.

I received that message after the initial installation of Avast 8 Bet2 (I think) and it repeated for every one of my initial "get mail" queries on my Google and Comcast POP3 accounts; however, if I remember correctly, when you attempt to view the certificate, there is a button labeled "allow this exception" and, when you click that, the warning will never return. Also, you will receive the same warning when you attempt to send out going (SMTP) mail on each account, so allow the exception and that warning will also never return. Good luck.
