New update kills my http (no popup blocker)
« on: February 24, 2005, 04:28:46 PM »
Hi i dont know why and how and already tryed to deactivate some of avasts services but it seems as if my port 80 connections are totally blocken when i run avast.
I have no popup killer running and use IExplore as well as Mozilla. Both dont work.
Thanks for any idea of solving this :).

Are you using a firewall? Which one?
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Did you allow ashwebsv.exe in your firewall?
If not, do so and the problem is likely solved.

ashwebsv.exe is the new Webshield Provider in Avast.

I use Fredom personal firewall and have enabled the ashwebsv.exe as  server as needed when turned on though  I can only log into about 3 out of 100 bookmarks,  I think more testing needed to be done beofre this new version was released

Im thankfull for every help and every update.
This software is free for most people and im totally happy with it most the time.
If there would be an oppertunity for me i would not ask for help in here.
And im sorry that there are actually so many threats about this topic ...
so im looking foward for a solution of my problem that may affect other people as well and thank anyone for his time spending with constructing a new update, helping the others with not that much knowledge like me and everybody else who is involved and takes the time to wait a while for solving.

Here my actual infos again for a fast lookover possibility:

Win XP SP2
Running Norton Personal Firewall + Avast newest update
Added Webserv in Norton.
My system works as normal if: a) Avast is shut down totally b) Norton is shut down totally. c) Shut down Webshield TOTALLY pause will NOT work.

Thats my actual "workaround" : i just choose a b or c ;)

Thanks to anyone

D.

Seems like a issue between Avast and Norton firewall.
Have you already removed Norton, rebooted and reinstalled Norton?

Just reinstalled norton.
The following changed:

I get the avast "webpage can not been found" thing in both browsers while norton is active.
If i shut down avast completely the computer still dont shows any webpage.
If i disable norton it works.
Was better before when i just could turn off webshield and everything was ok ... that way i have slight a low protection now i guess.

Another test showed me that now even emails cant be received while firewall is up. This worked fine before. Now the programs totally clash somehow.

Thanks for the idea.

Strange as well is that before the reinstall i had the normal "404" page when the programs clashed. Now its avasts.
So something changed but not really good.
So im hopefolly looking forward for the new ideas ;)

Thx a lot so long
hope we get this nasty bug :p
