HELP virus on winsxs
« on: February 21, 2013, 10:27:13 AM »
Hi,

yesterday I ran a full scan in avast free antivirus and it was shocking. There were hundreds of viruses in C:/Windows/winsxs. Avast ran for 2 hours and it wasn't able to move further from 0%. In panic, I stopped the scanning and tried to delete all those viruses it detected but I'm not sure if it deleted them. I ran the scan again this morning and there are still hundreds of viruses at the same place and it won't go further from 0%.
What should I do? Should I let Avast finish scanning? I'm afraid it will take all day and it won't be able to remove viruses.
I have Windows7.
I apologize for poor English. Please help me.

Thanks.

Should I deinstall Avast first and than install all those stuff? I'm sorry if this is a very stupid question but I'm not good at computers.

No need to uninstall avast!, just follow the instructions.

I did all that stuff and I didn't click on any repair buttons in OTL and aswMBR because it doesn't say so in the instruction. I hope I did everything right.
Now what do I do?

Now what do I do?

Now you've to wait for one of the malware experts to analyse your logs.

Had you done a windows update ?

Could you now rescan with Avast and see if the alerts have gone

I didn' click anything to update windows. I checked now, there are 3 windows updates that are waiting to be installed. Should I do that?
I ran the scan with Avast an hour ago, it is still running and it looks good so far. It's on 71% and no viruses yet:)
Is it possible that I'm virus free now?

I installed the updates. Everything seems fine. So, that's it? Is my computer cured or should I do something more?
Thank you all for helping.

No it was just an anomaly where Avast gets twitchy when windows updates

Your system appears clean  ;D

Run OTL and press the cleanup button to remove it
