Windows doesn't recognize avast
« on: February 15, 2013, 06:32:00 PM »
Hello,

I just brought back my pc from the shop, something happened a few weeks ago : the screen stopped when windows was opening. But everything worked perfectly at the shop, so I brought it back home and it perfectly works ! Weird !!!
So I just updated avast 7.0.1474 and there is a little white cross on a red circle at the flag : windows 7 says that I must install an antivirus !!!! What is happening ?

Thank you very much in anticipation,

Try a repair of avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

That "was" a known issue in v8.0 beta2 now fixed in beta3. It seems strange for this to happen with v7.0.xxx though.  ???
You might want to check to see if you are getting any activity in your web and script shields.
If there is activity your avast is working and you are covered.  :)

Thank you very much ....

I repaired, I rebooted, but the problem is still there.

There is an activity on every shield too.

So I don't understand what windows 7 is doing :(

Hi avragorn!

Did you deactivate Windows Defender? Defender and avast don't harmonize.

Then you could try a clean install of avast:
1. Save your avast settings
2. Download latest stable version of avast: http://www.avast.com/download-software
3. Uninstall avast.
4. http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (note the Windows Safe Mode detail).
5. Run aswclear several times, for each version / edition of avast ever installed or updated to in your system. Reboot after each run into Safe Mode.
6. Reboot
7. Install avast and restart after the installation finishes.
8. If everything works fine you could load your saved settings

Well ....

I noticed that Windows Defender is activated ! I don't understand, because I have my pc since 1 year, and I remembered I uninstalled it ...  When I deactivate it, there is a second error message from the flag : windows defender is not active ....

So I don't think it is a problem with avast ...

And it is strange, when I type F8 to go to safe mode, there is not the usual screen, they ask me the windows version I have, so there is only 1 listed : windows 7. I didn't click on it, it is the first time I see it, so I feared to do something wrong. There is not the usual screen when we want to start in safe mode, that's weird !

Oh no  :(

Does it really matter if windows defender is deactivated ? Is there a way to stop the error messages ?

Windows Defender in Win7 shouldn't be a problem. Maybe the shop has something "broken" on your PC?

No, they only cleaned the dirt in the pc, then they installed some video games to test my graphic card, because the problem was that there was no signal between the pc and the screen when windows opened. And when they tested my pc, it started without any problems. So installing video games to test the graphic card is the only thing they made, and cleaning the dirt too.

That isn't normal after a repair. But it's your decision...

Hi again,

The problem is resolved :
The guys at the shop certainly changed the configuration ... so for safe mode, I had to type on F9, then select windows 7 (the only line available) and type F8, and the safe mode starts !
So I uninstalled avast, then I installed it again, and now everything is ok :)

Thank you very much :)
