avast! and ZoneAlarm problem (hangs at boot)
« on: February 14, 2013, 11:05:34 PM »
I found a way to fix the always reoccuring problem with avast! and ZoneAlarm
(that the ZA "TrueVector" service hangs if the avast! service is started first):

1) Go to registry key "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\avast! Antivirus"
2) Add "vsmon" to the list of services in the "DependOnService" value
3) Value should now read something like "aswMonFlt RpcSS vsmon"

Now the avast! waits for the ZoneAlarm service before starting.

PS!  To prevent avast! (or something else) changing the value back you could
remove write access for the "avast! Antivirus" key (copy and change access)

yes, hard to believe it really shows the reality of facts

Companies that use very large sample base as itself AV-Comparatives tests it performs on-demand and proactive publishing the full results and its website for public knowledge and AV-Test GmbH that runs a battery of tests including complete on-demand, on access, proactive impact on the performance of the machine, scanning speed, etc., but the results are only available in specialized magazines whose editors bought those test results from AV-Test GmbH

2 - Companies that use samples based ITW (In The Wild) which is an organization whose technical council, composed of technical representatives nominated by antivirus software manufacturers and consultants specializing in security in information technology, elect monthly most dangerous pests in action and more widespread on the Internet. In this category we have the Virus Bulletin tests that performs on-demand and on-access and presents detailed results of tests only to subscribers of the monthly magazine, we also CheckVir that presents only the results on your website with few details, about the pass / no-pass just like the VB on your site.

3 - Enterprise certification and as the name itself was not constituted to present detailed results for the public, but to tell the manufacturer if your product is certified or not according to predetermined criteria, the manufacturer generally has a time to correct some nonconformity error detected during testing in order to receive the certification seal. These companies because they are based on standards that should have been accepted worldwide ITW use the samples in your tests and the most prominent in this area are the ICSA Labs and West Cost Labs Checkmark
