My email isn't being scanned

For some strange reason, avast! has stopped scanning my OE e-mail
It shows that I have 7 out of 7 scanners running.
I no longer see the e-mail icon when I receive e-mail and, it's not being stamped.
The only changes that have occured are an auto update of vps this AM.
Problem seems to have started right after that. I've looked at e-mails prior to the last update,
and they are ok
anything after the update isn't scanned....   nothing in the header and no message in the e-mail.

A vps update can't cause this. The vps is just a database and has nothing to do with how the scanner works. Have you already tried to remove the account, and recreated it (including newly setup of the mail scanning)?

I haven't made any changes at all
First thing this morning, e-mail was being scanned now, nothing.

Not that I expect it, but anything in Avast's log file?

edit: Already checked the Internet Mail provider to see if all settings are still correct?

I just found the problem..... ashMaiSv.ex  wasn't running.
It showed up in avast and looked as though it was running but, it wasn't listed in Task manager.
I stopped the service and restarted it.
Seems to be ok now
Just can't figure out what made it stop in the first place???

Hi...
I am having the same problem with the Internet provider. I stopped it then started it again manually. It says it is waiting for a sybsystem to start, but OE is open. No messages are being scanned--the a icon is not spininng and there is no clean stamp...even in a test message to myself.
I did check Task Manager and ashMaiSv.ex is shown as running ???
I am unsure of what to do next! This was my mother's computer (CoJo) and I don't want to mess it up! I have been reading as much as possible but don't know what else to do :-[
Before I try a repair, is there something else I should try? Thank you for any advice,

 I have allowed all Avast! things in ZA free

Was OE closed when you stopped/restarted?
What exact provider did you stopped/restarted?

Aren't you confusing the Outlook/Exchange provider and the Internet Mail Provider?
(last one is for OE)

It's always been necessary that the Internet Mail provider be manually stopped then restarted. My mother never did get it working correctly and checked on it before opening OE. If the provider was working then she opened OE...if not, then she did it as stated above and then opened OE.
Nothing I do now is making it start.

This is for OE (Internet Mail provider) not Outlook as that is not being used.

I went off line for awhile and when I came back online, it is now working :)

I don't know, Bob! I'll eat more bugs if it keeps these kinds of bugs away...
Now I wonder if it will continue working or happen again! Web pages are loading just fine and that is what I thought would give me problems.
so I am going to go offline and check back later and see if Internet Mail provider is still working.

BTW, I don't use instant messaging...was it all right for me to stop it?

If you don't use it, you don't need to use the resources.
