Registry scanning
« on: February 27, 2005, 11:26:34 AM »
Hi,

I was using AVG before Avast and I had a "regstry scanning option". Could you please tell me if there is such a fonctionnality in Avast or is it proper to AVG ?

Thanks

Registry scanning is kind of a myth.

The thing is, registry itself cannot contain any malware. What it may contain, though, is references to malware (e.g. saved in an on-disk file). Avast (and other AV's - AVG included) scan the registry to find these references.

Of course, what I just said is bit oversimplified but you got the point. :)

Thanks
