Newbie Question
« on: February 27, 2005, 03:15:49 PM »
I have just downloaded your avast free home edition program, and after browsing your forums discovered that it is currently incompatable with zone alarm. I connect to the internet with a cable modem. My question is this...would the windows xp sp2 firewall offer me enough protection to allow me to continue to use avast, or is there another firewall that would be compatable with this program?

No, maybe you misunderstood the post. Avast is not incompatible with ZoneAlarm as a firewall, just with some of its advanced features (present only in ZoneAlarm Pro or higher). Namely, with the "Privacy" features.

I am currently using avast! 4.6 with Zone Alarm Free and Kerio Personal Firewall with no problems, and have previously used it with Sygate Personal Firewall.  (XP Pro, SP2).  Just avoid the ZA Pro conflicts of the referenced threads.  Or switch to SPF or KPF if you want a little more insight from your firewall than ZA gives.

Thank you very much. I did misunderstand the post. I would like to ask one more question. I was using AVG antivirus which automatically did a full system scan daily. I understand this feature is not available in the free edition. How often would you recomend to run the local drive scan? Also are the files in the restore point beig scanned?
