Seriously? This is the most horrid user interface I've ever seen!
A SMILEY FACE? REALLY? Is there a way to remove this garbage and use the old UI from 6 or 7? This kind of thing will drive me away right quick, whether the AV part of the program works or not.
I want my old UI back!
You are showing to main GUI btw ... V8 GUI is quite well don't quite understand why some people prefer V7 one. Is GUI important for you ?

spywar
for me? Yeah, I value the overall looks and ease of use of a UI more than I probably should. Its mainly a petpeeve of mine that I dont like using something that looks like it was designed for 12 year olds.
-reinstalled V7, and now everything is A-OK.

Apparently more than the added protection offered by the new version since you've chosen to revert back to
avast!7.

Pretty happy with AV8 , would be good that software updater would be disabled by new installation , so you can choose which updates (however minor issue) , AV is so far nbr 1 and leaves everybody behind ...one more thing, how can I paste/copy the scan log so I can research some malware ..
( I had a figaga.exe which I was able to delete but some others which are showing in the log but AV8 can't locate..) ..

PS.53 years of happiness ..awsome and jealous ..but mine after over 20 is going down ...wheres the miracle pill ...

warm regards , eastcoast USA ...

Yep, I can't use Thunderbird now unless I turn of the MailShield, using gmail and it doesn't matter if I used SSL or not which means my mails are not being scanned

Is is underhand ploy to get us to upgrade in order to get mail protection?

same here! :(

I have the same problem. I tried adding my email server addresses to global exclusions and it can't work because the system adds http:// before the address and the address is https://!

Is anyone going to answer this question?

Just to say that a friend suggested that I turn off SSL Scanning (which is new) and it seems to work really well...

Of course it works, your secure email isn't getting scanned.

But this didn't help me... still Thunderbird fails to load emails.....TB is now entirely useless after avast version 8......  :o

Strange, thunderbird works fine here with avast 8 and ssl/tls and encrypted password enabled on the pop mailbox.
ALso a bit strange that you use http for the server name if am understanding right.

I suggest you browse the forums as there are many such posts and more crucially possible solutions (not disabling SSL scanning).
This is just one topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117826.0.
But you don't give any information, e.g. what errors are you getting, etc. I suggest that you create your own new topic and we will try and help. Otherwise it will just get buried in this massive topic.

Because on previous versions of avast for it to handle the SSL emails previously listed in the SSL Accounts/Settings it needed a security certificate/s. These are effectively redundant with no entries in the SSL Settings.

But in avast8 "The mail shield will scan email even when SSL/TLS security is enabled in email client", then it should also scan email when SSL/TLS security is off...am i right...but it fails to load email...!!!

You're wrong in your assumption it must be set as David described. :)
