Hi some_user,

I didn't ask for internet security, i want an anti virus.

It's best to prevent infections before they start, no?

Unlike many other antiviruses, avast! uses its "internet security" to stop the virus before it's injected into your computer.

Hi

I voted for the 'rubbish' option. I hate the glaring unreadable UI in all respects. I have no doubt that the effectiveness of it's main function in life will be as good as ever, but please, hire somebody with less than 100% eyesight to verify if the UI is actually usable.

Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.
I don't have perfect eyesight but I don't have any problems with the new UI. :)

Hi
Yes, beauty is always is the eye of the beholder. Who ever designed the orange text on white background must have had good eyesight!

I have WinXP, and Avast 8 gave me nothing but trouble. Boot up and shutdown were WAY slower, and I posted in here that I could not install a new program without a major battle that Avast won by simply stopping the install progress or lagging on for years just spinning in systray.

I went back to version 7, MUCH better. I kept getting a pop up that another "version 7" upgrade was available, thought about it, and finally upgraded to this other newer version 7.whatever. It turned out to be version 8, and within 15 minutes there was a blue screen crash - followed closely by the removal of version 8 (again), replaced by that other version 7 I had in my download directory.

Don't get me wrong ... I like avast - but this version 8 has a problem it seems with Win XP I'm guessing. I don't see myself getting rid of XP anytime soon, because, quite frankly, everything after XP was a piece of crap. My son got a new laptop, gave me his old one with Vista ... THAT was replaced by XP as well LOL. See where I'm going with this :D

Problem is that avast 8 was designed more for modern operating systems like windows 7 and 8 and so you are really shooting yourself in the foot by using windows XP. 8)

Even us older computer users need to get used to the newer Operating systems.
Windows XP's days are numbered. I know, my days are too but at least I'm running windows 8.  :)

I'm old school too ... if it ain't broke, dont fix it. All it is, is about money. If they change things you have to keep up. Unfortunately, the "improvements" suck wind. I remember Win 3.1 and the OS disasters that followed "making things better." I'm sorry, I don't buy it (pun intended).

That's your opinion which not everyone agrees with.
There have been many improvements but you need to keep up with them in order to appreciate them.
Windows 3.0 wasn't broken either I however prefer windows 8. :)

Hi... Just started to use Avast. Had AVG for a long time but felt it did not do a thorough job. Avast gets right 'down and dirty' to do the job..!! I also like the fact that more than just 1 scan can be done at the same time or individual scans for seperate files etc.

I feel safer with Avast and so far it's been fine. No reason at all for me to revert back to AVG or seek another Anti Virus. Im happy...!!

The picture deals with the fact that everything after 3.1 was a clusterf*ck of "improvements" that did nothing but piss people off. The bottom line is not "improvements" ... it's making money. Improvements are nothing more than a money making ploy by sociopathic business-people who don't give a rats ass about you or what you think or feel - because they can't - it's physical impossibility because the needed areas of the brain that govern things like empathy simply do not work. If something is created that does the job, it should be left alone - but it isn't. Why would that be? Simple ... if we leave it alone, we don't make money.

I will reserve my vote when I find out to update the definitions. All I get is cannot "connect to server". Temporarily I am downloading the file and doing a local update. Anyone know how to fix this?  :(
