Process to downgrade

One of my clients has a Host Checker governing its VPN connection, which apparently requires Avast Internet Security 6.x or 7.x.  Unfortunately in this case, I had taken the automatic upgrade to 8.x before realizing this.  What is the most straightforward way to revert to 7.x?

Uninstall and install an old version from Filehippo. Although downgrading is not recommended. More info will allow troubleshooting.
