The point is do you want your SSL email scanned or not as doing what you have done means it isn't going to be scanned. That isn't a solution but a workaround to the problem.

The email program settings have to be set to their previous condition using the SSL port and secure authentication and the avast Mail Shield > SSL Accounts section needs to be cleared of the old accounts, the Scan SSL email option should remain checked.

If you then get any certificate errors you would need to follow the information in the link given by vojtech in Reply #10

Thank's for your reply.

If the check box for SSL scanning is checked, I receive no emails and Thunderbird just stalls.

I never had any Accounts listed, so there was nothing to clear.

As I said before the certificate is there, in both places when the check box for SSL scanning is checked.

Maybe I am not explaining this correctly ?

Unfortunately with it stalling there isn't much information to work with as under normal circumstances you would get enough information in the error to probably identify the problem area.

This is probably going to need greater avast program knowledge than I have as an avast user, hopefully vojtech can get back to the topic. I'm just wondering if you follow that info link from vojtech's  reply #10 and remove any certificates, restart and see if that has the desired effect.

Well, this is interesting.

Since you did not say where to remove the certificate from, I removed them from the list under "Servers"
There were three of them, one each for hotmail, yahoo, gmail.

The certificate under the "Authorities" tab is still there.

Check box for "SSL Scanning" is still checked, and there are no accounts listed under it.

So far, both the Mail Shield and Antispam are functioning as they should.

I will let all settings remain to see if all email accounts function fully.

I think it was the from the list under "Servers" in that information    vojtech gave the link to. The main thing is that it is working now and it shouldn't be intermittent, it would either work or not.
