STEAM owners vs Avast! high CPU usage on updates
« on: March 06, 2013, 05:27:41 AM »
posted also on my twitter ;)
Avast! 8 antivirus owners with CPU spikes on STEAM client (while update of STEAM develiered games in progress)
You shall try add following exclusions to WEB SHIELD:

Code: [Select]
http://valve*.*.steampowered.com/depot/*
Code: [Select]
http://content*.steampowered.com/depot/*/chunk/*
that will solve quite extensive CPU spikes while updating differ byte delta patches of the games

unfortunately, there are also CPU spikes related to NETWORK SHIELD, but this one has no own exclusions:
so you need add same entries into GLOBAL exclusions (Avast's main settings)!

updated first post, to actually cover new STEAM source pages and also issue with both WEB and NETWORK shield ...

note the content will be still scanned when 'compiled' on install / finalizing via FILE shield

Hi,
Sorry for bumping this old thread, but the exclusions in the first post doesn't seem to work anymore. I got 100% cpu usage when downloading steam games.

My setup is:
Windows 10
i5 4440
8GB memory
Avast Internet Security 17.8.2318
