Gosh, thanks for such fast reponses, you guys. The program is turbotax2010. I no longer need it. I normally don't have trouble installing anything with Avast running, but when I tried to uninstall using the control panel, I got a message saying the "directory" was full, and to turn off Avast, which might finish the uninstall. The uninstall had proceeded to its finish when the message appeared. Is this helpful?

The following instructions from TurboTax should help you get rid of a failed uninstall:

Thanks. It occurred to me last night to go to Turbotax's website for just such a solution. I'll let you know if it works.

See reply no. 7  IMHO to turn off any real-time/resident protection is foolish at best.
Protection is the real reason you use avast, isn't it?  ???

The file that TurboTax wanted me to access to initiate an uninstall of remaining files wasn't on/in my computer. I'm going to assume the first uninstall was successful.
I do appreciate the input that Avast shouldn't be turned off/disabled to uninstall anything. It seemed odd to me, but I'm no expert. Thanks again to those who spend so much time helping others. :-* [ I'm a gal, so am sending an appreciative smooch]
